We are the Nelson Orienteering Club (NOC), based in Nelson, New Zealand. Most of our competitions and training events are held in the urban areas of Nelson, Richmond and Motueka, at Rabbit Island, Nelson Lakes or Canaan Downs. From absolute beginners to athletes competing on the world stage, we support anyone wanting to get started in the fascinating sport of orienteering.
Our Mission
- To promote, encourage and develop the sport of orienteering in the Tasman Region, on the top of the South Island of New Zealand.
- To maintain appropriate links with other regional orienteering clubs (like MOC and PAPO) and the New Zealand Orienteering Federation (NZOF).
- To organise orienteering events within the Tasman Region, and within other geographical areas after consultation with other orienteering clubs or regional orienteering associations.
- To ensure that orienteering events organised by NOC follow such rules of competition as published by the NZOF.
- To encourage, support and train members for the sport of orienteering.

Volunteering
The club has no employees to run our events for us, we completely rely on members volunteering to help out. As a club member, you are expected to help at least at one event during the year. It's normally only a couple of hours, you get free entry for that event and you will still be able to do a course at some stage of the day.
If you are interested in helping out (as volunteer during an event, as a committee member, as a setter/controller, event coordinator, newsletter editor, just to name a few of the jobs available) please do not hesitate to contact our secretary. Thanks in advance!
