Grampians Full Moon Rogaine - Wednesday 1 July, 2026 (2 hours)
Fundraiser:
To support Leo Croxford to get life-changing treatment in USA, Nelson Orienteering Club members Michael Croxford and Sally Lattimore are fundraising to send their son Leo to the States for a bone marrow transplant. The treatment is unavailable in New Zealand but offered free in the USA, so they need to cover the travel and accommodation costs for a minimum stay of seven-months.
Leo has SASH3, an ultra-rare autoimmune disorder affecting only fourteen known people worldwide, which causes his immune system to attack his own blood when he is sick, injured, or stressed, landing him in hospital numerous times throughout his life - twice in intensive care. Despite this, Leo represented New Zealand at three international orienteering competitions last year.
All funds raised with this night event will be donated to Leo's fundraiser: Adults $20, Juniors/students $10.
If you'd like to donate additional funds, please go directly to his fundraising Give-a-little page: givealittle.co.nz/cause/leo-sash3-bone-marrow-transplant
Rogaine details:
During a Rogaine, the aim is to find controls/checkpoints on a map in the real world, in this event complicated by the falling darkness. Checkpoints have different values, so it helps to optimise your route choice(s) beforehand. The winner is the one with the highest number of points in the shortest period of time. Coming back after 120 minutes will result in points being deducted...
You can run by yourself, or in a group. If running in a group, please make sure all group members have the same 'group name' during registration.
Although there are no prizes except eternal glory for all participants to this great cause, during registration please select from the following categories:
- Junior (20 years of age and under)
- Senior (over 20 years of age, but below 50)
- Veterans (over 50 years of age)
- Family (at least one junior and one senior/veteran from the same family)
- Mixed age (a combination of junior and/or senior and/or veterans, but not a family)
Event - Logistics
Parking - It is easiest if participants park at the front of Nelson Boys College and enter through one of the front entrances. There will be flags to help direct those not familiar with the school grounds.
Registration / Start / Finish - Nelson Boys College Hall. Registration/planning open from 5 pm onwards: please let us know you've arrived!
Mandatory Race briefing 5:50pm.
Mass Start 6:00pm, Finish 8:00pm (remember, don't be back 'late', or points will be deducted!). The majority of checkpoints will be in/on Grampians.
Compulsory items to bring to this event
Please bring:

Registration and timing
For timing, SI-cards ("dibbers") will be used. If you have your own, please register it's number during the registration process below. If you do not have one, please enter '0' during the registration process. The standard fee for borrowing an SI-card is waived for this event. However, if you borrow an SI-card and it is not returned at the end of the event, or returned defective, a minimum $80 fee will be charged :-(
If you are running as part of a team, only one person in your team needs to have an SI-card: either their own, or one on loan from us.
During Registration, you are asked for a phone number. Please enter a valid number on which you can be reached during the event.
